My choice to apply to business school was somewhat haphazard. Like many of my colleagues and peers, I’ve reached a point in my career where I’ve achieved just enough to not quit at a moments notice! But at the same time, it’s hard to not continuously think “Could I be doing something else? Should I be doing something else?”
I was sitting in a meeting late summer/early fall of 2008, thinking about this very idea. I remember the meeting being very slow and tedious, and as more of an observer than a participant, I started daydreaming. And at some point in the daydream, it occurred to me that maybe I should get an MBA to supplement my education. Now, you’d think a decision as major as returning to school would start with the idea “What education do I need to improve my career?” or “What am I interested in?”…hell, “I’ve always dreamed on going to (insert school here)” would suffice in a pinch. But for me, the decision literally started as a daydream.
Thomas Edison famously quipped, “Vision without execution is hallucination.” Now that I had daydreamed my way into going back to school, it would take a few more months to figure out the rest. As daydreams often go, details not included.
