Pensions and Leases and Taxes, Oh my!

Another lunch in the overpriced sandwich shop…when I get out of the program, I should just open a wireless hotspot and sell access cards.  I think it would save a lot of people the hassle of eating lunch at a sub-par restaurant just to get internet access.

But I digress.

So another lunch co-opted by schoolwork.  It’s becoming evident that I really need to manage my time better.  Twice this week, I’ve eaten a “toasted” (read: burnt) sandwich, endured co-workers asking why I would choose to do Accounting during my free time, and taken abuse as being a “Mac guy“.

The Accounting team project really isn’t working out for me.  Heck, let’s call it “Accounting” in general.  Since leaving the residency, I’ve seen the lectures, heard the words, but it’s not sinking in.  Before my team meeting tonight, I’ve got to figure out how to account for long-term debt across all the consolidated financial statements and how to write the journal entries.  Fun.

One thing that’s really hampering my learning is the fact that lectures are only available by logging into the Learning Platform, meaning you must have internet access.  The resource I’ve utilized most so far in this project is last week’s taped lecture, but that’s only available on the Centra web-meeting tool.  While I understand why the lectures aren’t available in other formats (distribution/IP issues I think), it really sucks not being able to just listen to the audio of lectures over and over, or watch them on my iPhone.

Oh well.  It’s never productive worrying about what you can’t do.  For that matter, blogging isn’t too productive either…the Accounting project hasn’t move an inch since I turned on my laptop!

Unfortunately, the play back will still be Centra. However, you can download it and play it back when you are not logged in....maybe you can avoid a bad sandwich that way

Oh, ok. I'll be sure to check that out.

Hi David, thanks for stopping by! I'm working with the Fuqua staff to expand this concept to all the MBA classes, so in the future there very well might be a GEMBA blog, Daytime MBA blog, Weekend, etc.

As far as the classes, Prof. Schipper (Fin. Acct.) was the one who told us that classes were only available through Centra. I'll be sure to check with CEBE, it would be so much more convenient to choose my playback method.

Great idea for a blog...I'm just finishing up the GEMBA program and it would have been fun to chronicle the experience. As for the distance lectures, you should be able to download them for playback. All of our classes are available to watch that way; you don't need to be connected once they are downloaded. Check with CEBE. Best of luck!
