This is the view from my room, overlooking the River Thames. If you could see a little bit further right, you would see the Tower Bridge.
The plane ride over was the same poor service as I expect from the U.S. airline industry. For whatever reason, every flight out of Philly that I’m on has a delay on the tarmac. And it’s always some bizarre thing…this time, it was “We gave the logbook to the guy, and he hasn’t come back yet.” Dude, at least tell me a tire fell off or something, don’t tell me you “temporarily” lost the paperwork! So the flight takes off an hour late, and yet arrives on time. WTF, way to underpromise and overdeliver.
The one bright spot was catching up with classmate Kevin before the flight. After making it to London, we decided to take the adventure of using only public transport to get from Heathrow to the hotel. A private car would’ve been £45 each; we managed to only spend £19.50 each taking the Express train, to the Underground. Put a little more wear and tear on the back than I’d have liked, but it was dramatically cheaper!
I had a nice Belgium beer at lunch (6.6%!) to ease the pain. I’ve also managed to meet a half-dozen or so of my other classmates. Everyone is either too tired to move, or trying to catch up on the pre-reading (both for me). Tomorrow starts bright and early at 7 a.m.
Cheers!
