So, just how long IS the flight to India?

Other than asking me how my honeymoon cruise was (awesome, btw!), the most common question I’ve been asked in the last few days is:

“You’re going to India?  How long does that take?”

I’m sitting in the Philly airport right now, about to find out.  The first leg of the journey is to get up to Newark airport, to then take the main 777 flight to India.  According to Continental, it takes about 1:15 to fly to Newark, then 14 hours to Delhi.  Even though the flight to Dubai took about 12 hours, it’s still hard for me to grasp how long I am going to be in an airplane today/tomorrow.  So with the bit of time between the Newark and Delhi flights, it looks like it’s going to be about 16-17 hours.  For a little perspective:

  • I went to bed last night at 11 p.m.
  • Arrived at work at 8:30 (9.5 hours)
  • At 11:45 a.m. this morning I went to lunch (12.75 hours)
  • I left work at 1:30 p.m. (14.5 hours)

From the time I went to bed last night, to the time I left work today, was 14.5 hours.  In that time, I slept, woke up and had breakfast, drove to work, worked, had lunch, worked some more, drove home, packed my bags, then went to the airport.  All of that activity just covers the flight to India!

All in, I am leaving Philly at 5:45 p.m. today (*fingers crossed*), and landing in Delhi at 10 p.m. tomorrow (11:30 a.m. EST).  I’m already tired just thinking about it!

For all of you that have already arrived, you’re lucky!  For everyone who is currently traveling, be safe.  If you’re not leaving until tomorrow or later…good luck?!

Thanks Syed. And thanks for stopping by Matt...this blog is going to be expanded shortly for the new Class of 2011, so the fun will keep on going long after our class finishes this December!

Safe Travels Randy! I just stumbled across your Blog and as a '2013 Fuqua hopeful' (I realize it may be a bit early for me to use this phrase), I look forward to reading more about your (and others within the CC program) adventures as a current student.

Cheers,

Matt

Have a safe trip and see you in India!
