…Connecting…

I have heard a lot of criticisms for CCL. But I got attracted to Duke MBA after seeing the “connected theme” video. I really liked the idea when Prof. O’Driscoll and Prof. Boulding started explaining the details. It is just a bit open ended as it should be. Together with GMI, CCL is the spine of CCMBA. Can we manage business without knowing the things happening in the world? Of course you can. I really wonder how many business leaders are knowledgeable about wider world. But can you do better business if you are aware? You bet you could. The Hermitage Fund story is a good example. The only caveat would be what business you are in. If you are in the business of replacing windows in US, you may not be much affected, but even in this case, the energy conservation has opened up new frontiers and if you knew all about it, you planned better for the future.

This made me think the theme of Duke Cross Continent Program – it is connecting the dots of world business.

I am not an expert on every place on earth. If I were, I probably may not be here. But I know somethings about some places where this class would take us and I would like to blog about it. The first one is about India and USA similarities. To understand this, we need to travel back in history for a few years. A few centuries to be in the ball park.

Hence my next blog will be about …..Connecting….India and USA.

Welcome Suresh! Excellent to see you here. Like AJ, I can't wait to read more about the connection between India and the U.S.

As I've remarked several times, London to me isn't that big of a deal in terms of "culture shock"...it's very similar to the U.S. by history, I work for a British company, etc.

Dubai was a little closer to culture shock to me, but since they are trying to be somewhat Western, it wasn't too dramatic of a shock (at least in the places that I visited). A good first introduction to the larger world.

India...I suspect there's going to be a LOT more culture shock. Before seeing the differences first-hand, it would be good to know some of the similarities!

Sounds cool. I will be looking for the next blog.
