Sometimes watching a movie right after you have read a book, or vice versa, really makes you see things in a different light. For example reading our econ text book and then watching “The Informer” was very enlightening. Things like price collusion seem abstract but the combination of the two really hammer the whole thing into your head.
Another combination that I found very interesting is the Black Swan & the Dark Knight. Near the end of the movie the Joker tells Harvey Dent “I’m not a schemer. I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control things really are”, I thought joker would then take of his mask and be revealed as Naseem Nicholas Taleb. I mean, if batman can have an alter ego why can’t the joker? I’m sure it wouldn’t do to have your main protagonist’s alter ego be an empirical skeptic / trader / philosopher but I can’t help but think that he fits the bill. Anybody else have any movie + book combinations that lit up a few brain cells?
