In less than 24 hours, I’ll start the journey to St. Petersburg, and I’m as un-prepared as always. You’d think by now, the last overseas residency for us Americans, I’d have done a better job of managing my time leading up to the plane flight. As it turns out, procrastination just couldn’t wait!
I got in to work today to clean-up any last minute issues, and now I’m home enjoying the beautiful day in Philadelphia. After the latest heat wave, it’s good to get a taste of what St. Petersburg is going to be everyday…low 70s during the day and cool at night. But that enjoyment is only going to go so far, as I still have to:
- Do laundry, specifically making sure I have clean “business attire” (I wore flip-flops today to work!)
- Pack 75 pounds of crap into two or fewer bags
- Cut the grass (or, pay someone else to cut the grass)
- Finish the Accounting pre-reading (two more case studies)
- Read all of the GMI pre-reading (or at least make printouts)
- Read all of the Operations Management pre-reading (or make printouts)
- Do CCL pre-reading
The sad thing about the list above is, it’s not even the entire list of things to do! I’ve got one VERY big thing to handle before I leave, but at the moment that’s just waiting for my phone to ring. In the meantime, I’ll need to do everything above as well as eat dinner, make sure any electronics I’m taking with me are charged, I’ve got any other reading materials I need for the plane, toiletries, filled medications…
I’m going to need a GIANT beer by the time I hit Duesseldorf; sure, it’ll be 6 a.m. in Germany when I arrive, but I’m sure I can convince (classmate) PVH to grab a cold one with me. After a five hour layover in Germany, we’ll then board up for a 4 hour plane flight, completing the 18 hour journey from Philadelphia to St. Petersburg…with just enough time to spare on Friday (Russian time) to shake everyone’s hand and figure out what the hell the street signs say. Heck, I might even have some free time to study (unlikely).
To all of you who have already left and are traveling Europe, don’t get burned out before I arrive. For those of you who haven’t left yet, see you in Russia!
One last note, unrelated to Russia…
Way back in December, I wrote a list of my school resolutions, one of which being adding another blog for the incoming class. For those of you who aren’t on a Facebook friend, I just realized that I never told ‘everyone else’. So…the time for the new blog has arrived! While the frontpage content of the blogs aren’t merged together, the RSS feed is, so be sure to add the feed to your favorite RSS reader to keep informed about both classes. I’ll have to figure out a better homepage setup when I back….anyone out there with PHP abilities willing to help with the coding (free, of course)?
